My son Clark turns A YEAR OLD tomorrow, March 29th!
We had a big party planned, but of course, with the Coronavirus, we canceled it and it’ll just be our little family of three celebrating.
His party was a “wild ONE” safari/jungle theme with monstera leaf banners and placemats. Since we aren’t having his party, I wanted to commemorate his Birthday in my Bible by painting a monstera.
I chose to work on Psalm 77 verses 11-12. At the beginning of the Psalm, the psalmist is desperately seeking God’s help and trying to understand his suffering. He doesn’t get the help he wants! Then halfway through the Psalm, he still decided to praise God and remember all the good things God HAS done!
I find this so powerful. God doesn’t always help us when or how we want him too. Sometimes it feels like he has left us. But he IS still there! Let us remember the things he has done and praise Him through the trials we face!
Clark’s birthday party is a minor thing, and we are so willing to give it up for the safety of ourselves and everyone else. It was, however, another reminder of how hard this battle we are all facing with Covid-19 is.
The fear in the air, the anxiety of the unknown, and the desire for normalcy are so prevalent right now. But let’s still praise God. Because he is still good!
The Tutorial
I created a little printable/traceable of a monstera leaf to make this page easier!
You can get the printable for free by CLICKING HERE or on the image below!
Check out the video to see exactly how I painted the monstera leaf in my Bible with watercolor.
I also did this page in Clark’s Bible, using acrylic paints! It turned out great!
Things to note
-I used watercolor, but you can also use acrylics, colored pencils, or your favorite medium.
-I did go over some of the text on this page. Since I used watercolor, I can still read it all, but I personally don’t mind if I can’t read every word. If you don’t want to go over the text, you can create a tip-in using the printable or your own sheet of paper, use a sketchbook instead of a Bible, or use an Interleaved Bible that has full blank pages (as pictured above in my acrylic version).
