I have been really into creating simple and easy Bible journaling pages lately! When I say that, or “beginner friendly” you may think what I am going to share will look very basic or boring. But it’s so not true! Just because these pages are easy to do doesn’t mean they look simple!
I really wanted to share this page; not because I can teach you much about the technique of it, but because I hope that it will provide inspiration for you! It’s common, especially with beginner Bible journalers, to have a hard time thinking of things to create, even when it can be as simple as this! I hope that this page gives you some new ideas!
I am calling this Bible journaling page the “watercolor bricks” page. It may not look that much like bricks, with all the crazy colors, but bricks were what popped into my mind as inspiration after reading the verse I am working on. The Verse is Psalm 84:1-2 which says; “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for the living God.” I thought of bricks building up the dwelling place (or church) of the Lord.
I decided to paint my “bricks” super colorful and take advantage of a bunch of colors in my Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor set. But you, of course, can use just one color or as many colors as you want. I also decided not to leave a ton of white space between my “swipes”, but you could and it would look even more like bricks.
Make the swipes longer or shorter, slimmer or fatter, etc.! Have fun creating for the Lord.
The Tutorial
Check out the video below to see how I created my watercolor bricks Bible journaling page!
Another Example
For the page above I used the ESV Interleaved Journaling Bible, which has full blank pages for every other page. I normally wouldn’t prep my page with anything before using watercolors, but I decided that in the specific Bible I was working in to always apply acrylic down first. That way all the pages I create in it will have a similar feel and thickness to them- just a personal preference for this Bible.
*Quick tip: I haven’t had any bleed-through with the watercolor set I use, but not all watercolor sets are alike and some may bleed. Test what you are using in the back of your Bible, and if your watercolors do bleed through, you will need to apply a layer of clear gesso or acrylic beforehand.*
I decided that I wanted to journal this again in my ESV Double Column Journaling Bible, which has the standard 2″ margins of most other journaling Bibles on the market. SO, If you don’t have an interleaved bIble, you can still definitely create a beautiful page with the same “watercolor bricks” idea. (Did not apply any page prep for this one.)
Here’s a picture of that Bible journaling page below.
That’s all I’ve got for you this week! Let me know what you think and if you have any questions in the comments below!
