Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. They are such a bright and happy looking flower. To me, they are an instant mood-booster, which is very appreciated during the current times.
Painting sunflowers isn’t all too hard either!
So today I’ll show you how I paint sunflowers.
I while ago I did a tutorial on painting loose watercolor sunflowers. That one is a more impressionistic version of what I’ll show you today. (I highly recommend checking that tutorial out too, it is easier in some ways because it is nearly impossible to mess up.)
The Sunflower Tutorial
In the video below I’ll show my simple method of painting sunflowers using watercolor. (I did half sunflowers, but the method is the same if you want to paint a full one).
Though I used watercolor in this tutorial, you can use the same technique and idea with acrylics. In fact, I did this same page using acrylic paints and I’ll be posting that tomorrow on my Instagram and Facebook, so be sure you are following me over there!
Things To Note
– I used my ESV Interleaved Journaling Bible for this page. I love this Bible because it has full blank pages to work on. However, if you don’t have this Bible, you can scale the sunflowers down using a smaller round paintbrush and fit it just inside the margins. Or, of course, you can paint this outside of your Bible on a separate sheet o paper or on a notebook. You can even make a tip-in out of it.
– I do not prep my pages for watercolors, and I have never had one bleed-through issue with my Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors (in a journaling Bible) in the three years that I have been using them! (I highly recommend the Gansai Tambi watercolor set.) However, I have heard that other watercolor brands can bleed-through. For more on all my favorite Bible journaling supplies *that do not bleed-through*, find my supplies post HERE.
