Watercolor Poinsettia Tutorial- Bible Journaling With Me

Who else loves Thanksgiving, but is also so excited it is over?! Now we get to really jump into Christmas!

Today I have a video tutorial for you on painting a watercolor poinsettia, but before we get started, I have a quick announcement!

Last year, I decided to take December off of the blog, and instead sent out free Christmas themed printables to my email subscribers each week. This was a hit, so I decided to do it again! I will be re-releasing some of the favorite Printables from last year, but will also have some new ones for you to enjoy!

Time always seems so short over the holidays, so I love using printables at this time of year to create quick and easy Bible journaling pages.

If you aren’t already signed up for my email list, you can sign up by clicking here. You will receive my standard 4 page printable when you sign up, and then the Christmas printables start next week!

Alright, now for the tutorial.

Figuring out how to paint this poinsettia took me longer than most other tutorials on this blog. I tried so many different versions of painting poinsettias, but they all just seemed unnecessarily difficult. Eventually, I decided on the poinsettia in the tutorial below. I found this to be the easiest version to do, and while it may not look the most realistic, I think it looks beautiful, and definitely like a poinsettia.

I will say, that this one may take some practice! So don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t turn out the way you want it to the first time! I suggest practicing on scrap paper or watercolor paper a few times before moving into your Bible. But, with that being said, because the shape of the petals and the leaves are the same, once you get the shape of the petals down, this is totally do-able for anyone! And you only need three watercolors- a deep red, a deep green, and a yellow.

As always, I want to point out that I did go over the text on this page (a completely personal decision for everyone), but if you want to keep it to just the margins, you can scale it down by using a much smaller brush. Alternatively, you can paint it on a separate sheet of paper and create a tip-in out of it. *Side note- if you feel strongly about not going over the text, but want more space to create in, I highly recommend getting an ESV Interleaved Journaling Bible. It’s the only Journaling Bible with full blank pages on every other page!*

The last thing I want to note is that no I did not prep my page with gesso, and no I did not have any bleed-through. I have never had bleed-through with the supplies I use. Supplies for this particular page are listed below, but for information on all my favorite Bible journaling supplies, check out this post.

So with no further ado, let’s learn how to paint a watercolor poinsettia!
