I did this Bible journaling page way back in April when it was cherry blossom season in Japan, but then life with a newborn happened and I never got around to posting it.
If you didn’t know, my husband and I lived in Japan for the first two years of our marriage (we moved back to the states a year and a half ago). Those two years were extremely tough for me, but it was also an amazing experience filled with so many great memories. One such memory was of taking hanami (aka a “flower viewing” picnic) under the cherry blossom trees.
I decided to paint some cherry blossoms for my Bible journaling page on Psalm 62:6 which says “he only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress, I shall not be shaken.” Cherry blossoms may seem like an odd choice for that verse (why not paint a rock, wall, or some other symbol of strength?), but here is my thinking behind it…
When I was about to journal this Bible page, my phone was being flooded with “
The cherry blossom trees are strong, big, and beautiful trees. But the cherry blossoms that sprout from them are fragile, and by the end of their blooming month, the blossoms all fall off when the wind blows and shakes the tree.
I feel like, as humans, we are the cherry blossoms. We are beautiful and amazing, but we are fragile, and nothing without our tree. HE ONLY is what can keep us grounded and protected. With God as our tree, we can’t be shaken, and we can’t “blow away”.
The Tutorial
So now that you know the reasoning behind the cherry blossom choice, let’s get to the tutorial.
The purpose of this Bible journaling page is not for it to look super lifelike. Just like the loose sunflower tutorial, we are going for the impression of cherry blossoms rather than a direct copy.
As always, I am sharing my page to be a source of inspiration, and I always will encourage you to change it up! Try painting a whole tree, or paint the “cherry blossoms” green and paint a different tree altogether! Paint this for a different verse, scale it down, blow it up. Use a different medium other than watercolors. The options are unlimited! Have fun and do what is meaningful to you!
