I started bible journaling almost two years ago. Over those two years, I have created some really pretty pages that I loved, some that I thought were nice but not my favorites, and some that I cringed at every time I saw them. I’ll even admit that I have cried a few times over pages that didn’t turn out the way I wanted them too.
And I’m willing to bet that if you have been bible journaling for any amount of time that you probably have a page (or multiple) that you are not happy with too. I think its one of the biggest struggles among bible journalers (and particularly perfectionists like me) that we can get caught up in how our page looks, and the art on the page, that we forget about the art our God is trying to create in our hearts.
Here’s the thing you and I have to remember- If you are bible journaling, it’s first and foremost because (or should be because :P) you want to connect with God and his word. To worship him in spirit and truth by spending the time, reading, praying, listening, and illustrating. You are using the abilities God gave you to glorify him! AND THAT IS BEAUTIFUL. No matter how your page turns out, it would be beautiful and amazing to him! So it should be beautiful and amazing to you too!
So let’s make a decision to be proud of our art always; that when we have feelings of disappointment or frustration on how a bible page turned out, that instead, we PRAY. Thank God for opening our heart to his word. Thank him for the free time and ability to use the creativity he instilled in us. Then let’s look at our “ugly” pages and be proud of them! For they are reflections of our hearts and our desire for God in our lives.
So the pictures on this post are some of my least favorite bible journaling pages. Time for me to share them and be proud!
Do you struggle when you make mistakes or a page that didn’t turn out how you wanted? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
