Watercolor Anchor- Bible Journaling With Me- Plus A Free Traceable

Today I have another quick “Bible Journal With Me” post for you.

I was working on Hebrews 6:19-20 which says “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” NIV.

Of course, I wanted to illustrate this verse with an anchor. So beforehand I used my iPad to draw an anchor to trace into my Bible. I figured that I might as well make it available for you to use as well! It’s completely free with no sign-ups necessary!

I decided to use my Interleaved Bible (a journaling Bible that has full blank pages on every other page) for my journaling; but if you do not have an Interleaved Bible and do not want to go over the scripture, you can use the small anchor that fits in the margins of a regular journaling Bible, or use the large anchor to create a tip-in that you can add into your Bible.

Keep in mind that you can do anything you like with the anchor traceable! I definitely want to encourage you to create a page that is meaningful to you. Remember, you can use watercolors like me, but you can also use colored pencils, acrylics, gelatos, or your favorite medium of choice. You can have the anchor attached to a boat, out of the water, underwater, next to sea creatures, etc. Have fun!

When I was starting my page, I remembered a doodle I used to create when I was growing up. You see, I NEVER thought of myself as artistic and definitely didn’t have much drawing or painting ability. So the most my drawings would get to were hearts, stick people, and this swiggly doodle that always reminded me of coral.

I created this doodle by just drawing “s” or “c” shapes over and over, each starting where the last one stopped. It creates this funky design that my mind always associated with abstract coral (it also could look like flames).

While I don’t claim this doodle to be a masterpiece and don’t expect many others to love it as I do, it is so sentimental to me. So I knew I needed to use it in the “ocean” scene with the anchor.

The beauty of Bible journaling is that it is so personal to you and your walk with Christ. You get to pull inspiration from things in your life! -like from a memory of doodles you created in high school chemistry class 😉

To stick with the “doodle” idea, I decided to use a small micron pen to outline the coral, anchor, and create my lettering with a messy, hand-drawn look.

*This “messy” hand-lettering style is a super easy one to create and a particularly fun one to try if you think you have messy handwriting. Simply write out your verse or phrase with a thin pen (it can be in print or cursive) and then go over that 2-3 more times, purposefully letting the lines be slightly separated. I recommend going fast and not focusing on where exactly the pen is going. I suggest using a size 2, 3, or 4 Micron pen, as they do not bleed-through the Bible page at all, and they are waterproof as well.

With no further ado, check out the video below to see how I created my anchor Bible page!
