Today I am working on Hebrews 10:19-25 which says:
19 Therefore, brothers,[c] since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
This paragraph just hit me right in the gut when I stumbled upon it. These current times we are in, with the Coronavirus, have been so tough, and I felt these verses to be so encouraging. Let us hold fast knowing the truth that we have eternal life because of Jesus. And even though with social distancing and staying home it is hard to meet together, let’s not neglect to connect in other ways and encourage each other! God is so faithful and we will continue to get through this together.
The Tutorial
I knew I needed to journal this page but I didn’t really know what to paint. Then I found @helendealtry on Instagram and was so inspired to paint some flowers. She did a wildflower painting that was so pretty, so I decided to do my own version of wildflowers!
In this tutorial I use acrylic paints. You essentially can do the same thing with watercolors, but you would need to work with your lightest colors first since you wouldn’t be able to overlap a darker color with a lighter one. The lighter color just wouldn’t show up; whereas with acrylics you may need to do a couple of coats (like I ended up doing with the yellow), but you’ll be able to see the lighter colors on top of acrylic.
Check out the video below to see exactly how I painted loose wildflowers with acrylic. (Also be forewarned, I ramble a lot in this video haha, I blame mom-brain.)
Things to remember
–The number one piece of advice that I can give you when creating this page is to HAVE FUN! These wildflowers are meant to be loose and quick, you don’t need to create the perfect flower shapes! Just get that brush on the page! The beauty of a page like this, since it’s not meant to be particularly realistic, is that any shape you end up creating will give you the impression of flowers!
-Also, remember that we are all such different artists so we are never going to create the exact same pages! That is the beauty of art! So I hope that my page inspires you to create something similar, but don’t be afraid to change it up. Create what is meaningful to you!
-I do not prep my pages with any of the supplies I use regularly (learn more about those supplies at my Eight Must-Have Supplies post). The great thing about acrylics is that they won’t bleed through no matter what brand you use. I use cheap Apple Barrel acrylics from Walmart for Bible journaling, because I find them easy to use and I don’t think we need to use anything fancy to worship in our Bibles. (I will say though, that while you can use any brand of acrylic, try to find a matte finish as other finishes can sometimes cause the pages to stick together.)
-I used my ESV Interleaved Journaling Bible for this page. It is probably my all-time favorite journaling Bible (and I have LOTS) because I love having a full page to work on without worrying about covering the scripture. So if you are in the market, I do highly recommend the Interleaved. (*Cough* I do have a post all about choosing a journaling Bible that lays out pretty much every option currently available. Find that post HERE. *cough*). If however you don’t have this BIble, you can absolutely scale it down to fit a standard Journaling Bible margin, or you of course can do this on a separate sheet of paper and make a tip-in out of it, or create it outside of your Bible completely!
