Have you tried Bible journaling with acrylic paints yet?
I know that using acrylic paints in our precious Bibles can be intimidating, but they can be a great tool!
There are quite a few benefits to using acrylic paints as well! For one, you don’t need to prep the journaling Bible page and acrylics won’t bleed through. In fact, acrylics act as page prep themselves, so you can use supplies that normally would bleed through on top of them without worry! Another benefit is that if you mess up, just can just paint over it!
In today’s Bible Journaling With Me video, I’ll show you how I created two super colorful acrylic backgrounds! These backgrounds look complicated, but they are actually very simple!
First I’ll show you the page I created in my Interleaved Bible that has a full blank page to work in, and then I’ll show you how I created a scaled down version in my ESV Single Column that has a standard 2″ margin.
The Tutorial
I really hope you will decide to give this tutorial a shot because it really is a fun one. And one of the best things about this tutorial is that each page will be completely unique. You can’t mess it up!
And remember, you can use whatever colors you’d like and as many or as few details as you want. You definitely don’t have to go all colorful if you do want to! Have fun with it and enjoy your time in the Word. It’s all about meditating on the scripture and worshiping our wonderful savior.
Check out the video below to see how I created my pages and how you can create something similar yourself!
The Verse
The verse I worked on this week is Job 19:25 which says:
” For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.”
This chapter is compelling because for most of the chapter Job is upset and distressed, then he starts to praise the Lord.

- ESV Single Column Journaling Bible
- ESV Interleaved Journaling Bible
- Acrylic Paints– Link is for a pack of Apple Barrel paints that I love, but it does not include all the colors I used. I recommend just getting your paints at Walmart or the craft store, it’s much much cheaper. You can use any brand of acrylics, though I do prefer a matte acrylic over gloss to prevent stickiness.
- White UniPosca Paint Pen– Extra Fine Tip
- Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pens
- Small flat paintbrush and small round paintbrush– I don’t use any specific brand, I get synthetic brushes in value packs from the craft store
- Craft Heat Gun
