Happy Easter 2020!
This year Easter sure looks different. It will be hard not to be able to celebrate this great holiday at church or with family and friends. But going through times like these really makes you grateful for the things we do have, doesn’t it? I know I’m so thankful for technology and being able to watch church online and connect with family and friends through FaceTime/skype!
I am also thankful to be able to worship Jesus openly and without abandon.
This year for my Easter Bible journaling page I wanted to paint a sun to represent how, like the sun, Jesus rose out of the darkness (of death) and is now our light.
This abstract sun is simple. It is great for beginners. Though it is a little more time consuming, it provides a wonderful time of meditation and prayer.
The Abstract Sun Bible Journaling Tutorial
For my tutorial video, I used acrylic paints and my Interleaved Journaling Bible, but you could easily do this with watercolors, colored pencils, gelatos, etc. (I did this myself a second time with watercolors and it turned out wonderfully. Pictured below.)
If you don’t have an Interleaved Bible, which has full blank pages, you can still do this! Paint on a separate sheet of paper and create a tip-in out of it, or journal in a separate notebook. As mentioned above, you can also use watercolors. If you don’t mind going over the text, as long as you keep the colors light, you will still be able to read the scripture underneath.
I also freehanded the sun in my video, but I did create a quick traceable printable in case you wanted more guidance to create this page yourself.

Watch the video below to see how I painted the abstract sun. The process is pretty straight forward, but I do give a bunch of tips to help you create it!
I always want to encourage you to create in a way that is meaningful to you and enjoy the process! There are a TON of ways you can change this idea up, so go for it! For example, I decided to add some white accents to help my lettering pop and add a finishing touch, and I was so happy I did that. But, the page before I added the white looked super pretty also (as pictured below)! So have fun and make it your own!
