The Illustrating Bible Review And Watercolor Galaxy Tutorial

Illustrating Bible
I am super excited because today (Sept. 12) the Illustrating Bible by Illustrated Faith and Dayspring launched! This Bible is so great for Bible journalers, so I am going to do a little review of the Bible and show you how I created a galaxy for the first page I made in it!

I was given this Bible for free in exchange for a review, but all opinions are my own.

Check out the video below for the galaxy tutorial and to see what the Illustrating Bible looks like!

As you can see in the video, this Bible has a bunch of cool features, but also a few things I don’t particularly love, so to help you out, I’m going to do a little pro/con list. Of course, this is totally just my opinion, and you may feel differently about certain features. I also want to stress that though it may not be perfect, I still absolutely love it!!

Pros

Extra thick pages

The pages of the Illustrating Bible are thicker than any other journaling Bible. They are as thick as a normal sheet of paper. Which allows you to easily work with a ton of materials without worrying about bleed-through or preparing the page.

Extra-wide margins

The margins of this Bible are almost four inches! I LOVE the size of the margins and think they are the perfect size. It allows you extra space to create anything you would like, while still being on the same page as the text. Unlike an interleaved Bible that has full blank pages, or a normal journaling Bible that only has 2″ margins!

Spiral binding

This is what really makes this Bible one of a kind. The spiral binding allows you to add in pages, tip-ins, and tabs, without it getting too bulky. It essentially will grow as you use it. This is particularly great if you do a lot of scrapbook style pages with stickers, etc.

Pretty exterior

The cover of the Bible is a very pretty rose gold faux-leather, and it has a teal suede on the inside covers. It’s so simple and beautiful.

Cons

Large Titles in Margins

On the first page of each book of the Illustrating Bible, they have the names of the book written down the margin. The lettering they use is very pretty, and it is only the first page of each book, but I would much rather have the space to create in.

Spiral binding

On one hand, the spiral binding serves a great purpose of allowing the Bible to expand and lay flat, and I know so many people in the Bible journaling community who are thrilled about it. But I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the spiral binding. My issues with it are that it is more finicky to open and close (I have very limited patience) and I worry that if I accidentally snag a page the page will rip out. So you have to be more careful with this Bible. For most, I think the pros of the spiral out way the cons.

Price

As beautiful, unique, and awesome as this Bible is, it is also pretty pricey. At $99.99 I know it is so far out of a lot of people price range; which is too bad because this Bible is such a great resource for Bible journalers!

You can get one of my custom, hand-painted, journaling Bibles for less!

All in all, I truly love this Bible and would purchase it myself. You can tell it was completely made with Bible journalers in mind and it provides a lot of things other journaling Bibles do not!

You can purchase the Bible and see a full list of its features HERE.
